Let’s start from the beginning defining the word design. As a noun, the Merriam-Webster defines it as “a particular purpose or intention held in view by an individual or group” and as a verb “to create, fashion, execute, or construct according to plan”. It’s also interesting to see the range variety of words classified as synonyms, such as architecture, composition, form, idea, plan, layout, model, and so on. In a broad sense, the design is a process. It can start from the idea until the construction. Oddly, none of the definitions or the synonyms has any word about users, customers…

As a UX designer, I’m used to reading articles about Cognitive Bias. If you are not familiar with the term, the Interaction Design Foundation has a very good definition “Cognitive bias is an umbrella term that refers to the systematic ways in which the context and framing of information influence individuals’ judgment and decision-making”. Basically it means that even though we design trying to predict the user’s behavioral you have to consider that not all human-beings actions are rational and predictable.

Outside the design world, those biases are known as elements part of the Behavioral Economics field. This area of…

Ok, I got it. You decided to become a designer because you are a visual person, or you like to create images and objects and see how people interact with them. But you can also say you like to make those interactions simplers, easier… And you think economic systems are all related to numbers, and statistics, and money, blábláblá.

I have big news for you. We are all part of the economy. And as designers, we are at the starting point of this system. …

Historically capitalism emerged in the 12th century. The capitalist is, in a very simplistic way, someone who owns capital. In this scenario, ‘capital’ means assets that can make that capitalist a more powerful person from an economic perspective. The majority of the counties in the world today live under a huge influence on a capitalist economic system. The Devil is safe, he/she can travel through all the continents with his/her credit card.

Design Thinking is a buzzword. If you google it, you will find different ways to describe it. Probably, it will make you feel more confused about it. But relax, almost every piece of information is correct even if they are quite different from one another. Design Thinking (DT) is not just a framework, a recipe or a checklist. Design Thinking is a mindset. However, when you need to start working with something new, it is really good if you can have a few steps to follow until you feel secure and internalize the mindset in order to apply it in…

A few years ago, I used to struggle to convince my clients to give me more — or just some — time to do a good customer research, and I must confess I lost a few battles. But eventually, I learnt how to manage it. I stopped fighting this. At first, I would listen to them carefully — after all, they are experts in their products. After that, I would let the force of a good methodology clarify whether their ideas would be the best way to make money. Once clients understand they may not make the profit they dreamed…

NO. 3 — “Software Tools for Service Designers: How software tools can support the service design process”
